Guest Blog: Drake Powe
Hello Friends! I thought I would try something different this month. I’d like to introduce you to a dear friend of mine. Drake and I go back more than three decades. I have always appreciated his resilience, peaceful energy and loving nature.
Drake is a meditation instructor, life coach, stress reduction consultant, and public speaker based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Using Yoga and grounding techniques, he teaches a relationship to agelessness and thriving in the midst of modern challenges. Drake has been practicing meditation since childhood and has over 30 years of experience supporting personal growth in the midst of challenges.
Drake has provided me with three poetic works. What a change of pace this will be! I encourage you to read slowly and mindfully. How does our internal rhythm of reading change when we read poetry? Do any of the lines resonate with you? I would love to hear your feedback.
A Long Way To Go But Already There
Step up to infinity
The threshold between life and death
Once across the line a moment is equal to a thousand years
With those that pass always close while so far away
This is important
Lost in ignorance, you might miss it
Distracted by the games people play
You could miss the opportunity to speak to the eternal
Right now, here, today
This moment is the point of power
You can choose right now
To live life as an oath
A human being has to have a code
If they want to be humane
Choose it here today
Death feels far off, but it is really right now
We Do Not Have To Be Afraid
We are safe
Even if what we fear occurs
We will be alright
Who we truly are is not at risk
It is true that we die
At least to others, things change
But we are not things
And never experience death
Endings are only commas,
With separation truly reparation
Where what is lost is always found
And nightmares turned into dream
We find our power in acceptance
With the courage to see
Loving what is
Amore fate
Time
It moves so slowly as a child
Summers
College
The decade between your 20’s and 30’s
Children grow up so fast
The summers are so short
They are almost done with school
The decade between their 20’s and 30’s
On the deathbed
Remembering summers
The romance of youth
We grow old, but are the same inside
Time is an illusion
It all happens right now
Kind, patient, content, committed.
Beauty never ends
