Death Doula Laura – Spring 2024
Hello Compassionate End-of-Life Community! What a busy month was May. I said a final good-bye to several cherished clients and spent a lot of time organizing parts of my life to create more flow between work and leisure.
Although it was not an easy decision, resigning from the Board of Directors of the Home Hospice Association, as well as from many volunteer activities associated with that role, has created more “space” for me to focus on wellness and balance. And on the home front, Carlos (my husband) and I have been tinkering with our daily routine – including when to walk the dogs. It sounds silly, but even some slight adjustments have led to more daily flow, and I am grateful.
In my practice, I make time to provide respite for two to three families at a time. Mostly, the people I companion have dementia. They are all beautiful souls. We have been trying to take advantage of the Spring weather and get out to breathe fresh air (and ice cream!) as much as possible. Although I am at capacity for respite care, you can contact me if you would like to be added to the waiting list for respite in the Calgary SW area.
Coming up in June I am pleased to be hosting two virtual seminars: On June 18th I will be offering a webinar on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), and on June 25th I am going to be talking about dementia, and what end-of-life looks like for people with dementia. I will be adding an event on how to become a Death Doula as well (date TBA). I hope you can attend!
